I would say definitely M62, then A1. I travelled on A1 last night and there is a little bit of single lane north of Scotch Corner but won't slow you down too much especially on a Sunday.



Leave A1 at J65 (Washington services) joining the A194 (South Shields, Tyne Tunnel). After about 3 miles, turn left picking up signs for Newcastle and Gateshead - the ground is about 2 miles along on your right - it is an absolute doddle.
