Think it was to celebrate the 100 years of Aussie test rugby and they were the colours of the original shirts .
They also named a Kiwi in the side coming over here ala Dally Messenger , cant remember who it was but I think he got injured before the tour .

It was Stacy Jones but he got injured then they picked another and he did the same so I dont know if they brought one or not, but yes IIRC it was the anniversary.
