If we were in for a prop they would come for slightly less if they had the chance to play with Lockyer.
6- Lockyer
7- Leuluai
14- S.Tomkins
Also Morley and LMS.'"

I've read your posts you must take smarties what they sell in nightclubs which make you dance and talk crap.
Adam Mogg went to Catalans for the chance to play with Stacey Jones.
5 years ago if you had the chance of playing for Newcastle with Johns in the side for £70 000 or just some rag tag team like Souths for £80 000 or maybe £90 000 you would sign fo Newcastle for the Johns factor, you would have more chance of winning trophies. Shimples!!!
If we signed Lockyer we would have more chance of attracting better players, we wouldn't keep getting knocked back like we do. See Lynch, Carvell, Long.
But if we did sign Lockyer we would need to sign 2 props an loan out Prescott. Morey and LMS would be my choices.

| It has occurred to me that IL is deadly silent because all the deals he's made with a new coach and new players is all boxed off, signed, sealed but just the delivery date to be agreed.
If that is the case then it's just a matter of wait and see.
No mention yet of the players OOC who may be retained or released. Only one has been re-signed that I know of, Tommy.

| Lockyer would be fine as a 7 Aus teams (inc the national team and Brisbane) often operate split halves during long periods of the game.
I still would sooner see a younger partner for Sam, someone for Sam to build a lasting partnership with. I would also be worried about the size of cap it would take to get Lockyer. We already have Fielden on a big chunk.

now lets be serious for a minute, amusing insults aside, why do you think signing Lockyer would propel into the top three? also, doy ou honestly think that any player would take a pay cut just so they could be the same side as Lockyer?
if i where stll plaing an i got offered £95k a season to play at Wigan with Lockyer or £105k a season to play at Wakey with Brough, Wakey would secure my signature.

But for the same money you would play with Lockyer. Signing Lockyer would probably pay for itself in increased gates and shirt sales etc. so as a business decision, as well as a playing one (get sam to learn off THE master) it makes sense.

Agreed.
Quite a few people don't want someone like Lockyer because they feel we'd be better signing a talented youngster - like Myler.
I'd never object to us signing Myler, but we've already got a number of talented youngsters. One thing we HAVEN'T got is a dominant midfield intellect; an experienced leader and playmaker who can direct the team around the field. Lockyer could undoubtedly provide this. I know he's a veteran, and I know he'd command a big wage (though, at his age, not quite as big as some are suggesting), but if he was available we'd be barmy not to go for him.
People are attaching great significance to this idea of having a settled halfback parternship for four or five years. There's no doubt this is desirable. But is it manageable? Even if we signed Myler right now and slotted him in alongside Sam, there's no guarantee they'd both still be here in two years time. Anything can happen in sport. You can plan the future to a certan extent, but I don't think you can afford to plan it at the expense of the hear and now.
More important than anything at Wigan, after appointing a coach who's able to coach the modern game, is to appoint a skilled halfback who knows how to control his team and open defences.
And as SS says, think of the positive spin-offs for Sam. Throughout life, masters and apprentices have formed very effective working partnerships. Rarely have two apprentices together achieved anything like the same success.

What a criminal waste that would be.
Not trying to generate 'that old debate' again, but can't the world's RL authorities come to some kind of agreement about discounting the salary cap in the face of offers from Rugby Union?
We did very well out of Union players in the past, but there were many more of them than us, and very few of them had been trained or conditioned to the level that ours have now. It seems to me that League clubs are doing all the detailed and expensive preparation work so that a totally different sport can benefit.
Am I naive to think like this? I don't know. But I'm certain fed up.

| We are going to miss out on Richie Myler. Wire have offered Salford 100K which they are on the verge of accepting as they can't afford the wages being offered to him and would rather cash in now than let him go for free next year.
