The part saying we've signed Bowen could be a starting point. You don't know that do you?!!
The incorrect names of players being used?
The sarcastic dig at Wigans youth production line....the most fruitful youth production system in Britain and one of, if not the best in the world?
These aren't 'facts' are they? What a s*ite post.

There isn't room to breath around the middle of the field and the ball hardly ever reaches the edges. They can pretend they're enjoying themselves all they like but players like Joel and Eastmond must be bored to tears. The money's great and they may become famous but their enjoyment on the field can't be the same.
I actually think Tomkins would be very average in Union.'"
There's definitely more space in union. Despite there being 2 extra men on the pitch the breakdown area takes up a minimum of 5 players from a defensive line, often more. This leaves less men to cover the same amount of space as the breakdown area would only be the size of a PTB.
Having played both codes for good lengths of time and playing in positions where exploiting space was key, I can definitively say there is far more space to attack in Union.

Why are there so few try's then? Why has Eastmond hardly made a break in his time in Union when that is his game?
I watch a bit of Union but I appreciate you know far more then myself. Is it that there's more space in Union but they're dreadful at exploiting it? There's hardly any clean breaks, tackle busts, the ball hardly ever gets played wide which is where this space looks to be to me.
I watch a game of Union and there doesn't look an inch to move in the middle yet that's where 95%+ of the game is played. I suppose I'm answering my own questions here.

There are a lot of reasons for the lack of tries, I think, but one major one has to be the relatively high value of penalty and drop goals.

I agree with you, a try is worth 5/7 points and a penalty 3 it's madness considering the amount of penalties given away, most teams rightly focus heavily on winning the "forward battle" which results in penalties and thus 3 points. Union games appear to be so heavily decided by the forwards ability to perform the technical requirements not actual ball movement and creativity among the backs. For example a team can knock on "win the scrum" resulting in a penalty and gain 3 points, what other sport can a team gain points from their own error?

Correct. Catching ability isn't good enough to play fullback. Too creative to play fly half. Not big enough to play centre.
Running around trying to find a gap might work in RL but it won't in RU. You can't lose contact with your pack or you lose the ball.
Regards Union, I've been impressed with how Andy Powell is always looking for the offload (presumably as he is used to keeping the ball on his side in the tackle) if we can get one of the halves to follow him we have a good move there.

Is this a joke? It's a forwards game, each time a ruck or maul is formed it can take up the entire pack leaving only the backs out wide.
Secondly, with more kicking the game is more open as there is no line pre-set like there is in league, which creates far more room, the line in open play is often broke.
Hence more room.

Just trying to help you. You're moaning about Allez and his trolling, but yet you respond to him. All I'm saying is that if you don't respond, he/she may not be so quick to go fishing again next time. It isn't difficult.

That is not how the All Blacks play it. They have moved away from rucking and mauling as much as they can and so have numbers out on the outside.

The kicks tend to be for touch not like kicking in RL to turn the player around. A couple of years ago I went to a Leinster v Munster derby game in Dublin. It was a kick-fest with kicks that didn't find touch hoofed right back the other way. It was like ping-pong.
Guess how many tries were scored that day? None. The kicks just didn't result in any open play at all.
If an RU if a back is isolated in his own half 99 times out of 100 he will kick the ball away regardless of how open the field is in front of him.

Honestly, I'm not even bothering with this. 'That's not how the All Blacks play it' oddly enough Sam wouldn't be playing the best RU team ever week in week out.
The forwards maul/ruck, leaves space outwide for backs, becomes less men v less men. No resets after each tackle doesn't allow the line to re set, this creates a broken line which Sam would relish. The kicks often don't find touch, this again causes open play as the forwards are slower to get back into position.
Additionally Union forwards are slower, easier targets for a quick-footed back like Sam.
Look at backs like Robinson and even Ashton in Union, their attacking play often came from slicing through a broken line.

| space in union depends on how effective the defensive team is in the ruck NZ doing it really well and don't get sucked in but disrupt and turn over enough with out pilling players in the ruck. Also you don't really see the ball being spread around at lot as usually you get turned over or don't control the ruck well enough, another thing the all blacks are good at is getting to a ruck.
ashton has a massive conversion rate of try scoring to touches of the ball and Tomkins would eclipse him so he would be a success in unions eyes but for us watching it would look like he does nothing all game apart from touch the ball 3 or 4 times and score a try.

It's depressing seeing how much Eastmond got the ball last season compared to his involvement in rugby league games, I recall him hardly being involved in a game apart from receiving the ball in space and scoring a try yet his whole performance for that match was considered great just based on him converting the singular opportunity he got to attack.

it has the same mentality as under 9's rugby that the point scorers get all the credit. Its horrible but some times there is a good game of union but usually its dull and boring but the press are all ex grammar/private school boys and wouldn't dare be negative towards it. The social side to union beats league by a mile.
