If we had our good team actually on the pitch I might agree!



But it's hard to criticise Wane too much considering the players actually available to pick.



I do think that whoever is in charge of recruitment does need a shake up though.



We identified 3 years ago we needed more size up front and have done absolutely nothing to fix that.



We're also going too far down the route of local boys and project players forgetting that the odd star player is also needed - not least to put bums on seats and create talk in the pubs.

A Matty Smith move to Saints wouldn't surprise me at all. I've not heard anything recently but I know for a fact that Cunningham approached him to return to Saints last year (for the 2015 season). Wigan at that time were trying to get Tommy Leuluai back. Smith is still very good friends with some of the Saints lads, Wellens in particular, so who knows.

Saints aren't signing Smith. We were interested him a couple of years ago for the 2015 season but that has passed and we won't be going back.

Haha. I've been told well in advance of it going public about every signing we've made in last few years mate plus more besides so I'm sacking my source if this one turns out to be true!



Unless something changes in the coming months in terms of our targets then we won't be getting Smith.

Great post and something I've been saying for some time.

I agree and would go one step further in saying the whole club needs a shake up. We seem to have slipped back into the "jobs for the boys" mentality where anyone who has been associated with the club in the past is employable.



We have fallen into this mentality before and it wasn't until new blood came in and changed things that performances and the club developed.

I think a lot of us are saying the same things in different ways. My points never seem to come across right, but I read someone who phrases it different and people agree. We all want to be entertained at the end of the day, there's loyalty to your team of course, but we pay money and want to be entertained watching our team. Phil Clarke said the other day, coaches these days are more like choreographers, the coach sets the moves and expects people to show up in the right place, it's a numbers game, more attackers than defenders. Are players being stifled because coaches want structure and possession? Is the game played more like American football where attacking play is all developed in training rather players being lower to show ingenuity on the field? That's how SL appears to me on the whole.

That Scott Taylor lad looks a decent Prop, wouldn't mind him at Wigan.
