Nothing at all wrong with that and Wane could have said as much in his press conference.

| It's utterly bizarre that Wane and Lenagan always make out that Wane does a lot of day to day running of the club and knows the players inside out then when he's asked simple questions during press conferences he acts dumb and like he doesn't know what's going on. WE ARE NOT IDIOTS SHAUN. Picking injured/suspended players in the squad and not openly talking about injuries is small time and those days of mind games are gone.

I don't really understand the cause of your annoyance.
Surely you don't believe that when the chairman is away, the coach should take it on himself to make statements about the futures of certain players at the club, especially when those futures might not yet have been decided because there might be legalities involved, etc?
I'm always bewildered by this 'we need an announcement' attitude among Wigan fans. Surely crises like this should be managed professionally and preferably in-house, not at press conferences in the eyes of the whole world?

At the same time I don't need professional rugby players to be my moral compass so there is no crisis. If Bateman did everything he's accused of it wouldn't stop me cheering him scoring the winner in the GF.
IMO if he's not been charged then it's what's best for the club and imo that's letting Bateman play.
Shallow? Maybe but not as shallow as having a rugby player as an idol

| I guess Wane will decide if he wants him in the squad anymore but it'll be Lenagan who decides either the punishment or how we cut ties with him shouid they want to do so. I'd be stunned if such a good player was sacked especially when it looks like no police action will be taken. The club could still command a decent fee for him if it came down to it.
As things stand I'm speculating though and I'm happy enough to await something official. As pointed out if Lenagan and Radlinski have been out of the country is difficult for them to get their heads together with the coach, players and anybody else who've been involved so we may be waiting a while yet.

| But if we do sell him who loses out?
Bateman- continues his RL career at another club. A talent like his doesn't diminishes he's that good. A wire, Leeds or Saints would snap him up imo.
His new club- payed a reduced amount for a great player.
Wigan - sells one of its best players and gets a lump of money it can't spend as transfers are useless apart from in exceptionally circumstances.

We don't need him to make a statement or tell us exactly what's going on, he just needs to stop pulling the wool over our eyes. And I'm not just talking about the Bateman issue specifically, he's done it plenty of times before.

I share your desire to know what's going on, but it doesn't surprise me that Wane, who's an employee at Wigan like many others, doesn't take it on himself to publicise stuff that might be deemed sensitive, especially when the boss is away.

It would be gutting to lose him but if it's that serious that the coach/players don't want him to be part of the squad there will be little option. If him being at the club creates a poor atmosphere it won't matter how good he is.
Again it's pure speculation. We don't even know what's gone on yet.

I thought that myself but with IFL and KR being out of the country, he probably hasnt had a disciplinary yet. I would guess that hes reporting daily as normal but training on his own

Unusual for a forward these days he tackles around the legs. David Meade would be a good signing, but i would be suprised if another NRL team doesnt pick him up

| Is Gubb any good?
I saw the Mead rumours and wondered if he could be a player Rads has spoken to. It sounds like he can cover a couple of positions which would be handy.

There seems to be a lot going on at the N Z Warriors at the moment, it seems Ryan Hoffmans straight talking to some players is not going down to well with some of the players and as well as that Shaun Johnson has ruffled a few feathers by reportedly going to the board and pointing the finger at certain players.
All this is on the N Z Warriors Front Row forum, thread 6 to be dropped, see below posted 29th May.
"OPINION: The Warriors are a club in chaos.
The repercussions from the Warriors' big night out in Auckland after their Anzac Day thrashing in Melbourne – belted 42-0 – continue to be felt.
It will be some time before the club and everyone involved can move on.
It's understood a group of the Pacific Island players have found captain Ryan Hoffman's very direct Aussie manner difficult to handle."
"The teams' stuttering season is on a knife edge and only an improbable win against the Broncos next weekend seems capable of somehow injecting confidence back into the club and getting the team back on track.
While desperate to promote unity to their disappointed fan base, the team will have to work hard to contain frictions within the player ranks.
Behind the scenes, some team-mates are at odds with each other over how the recent issues have been dealt with.
It is understood the hard-line taken by coach Andrew McFadden and captain Ryan Hoffman, most particularly toward some of the young players, is not going down well.
But despite all the revelations and confessions since that appalling lack of judgment by six fully contracted players to head out on the town on April 26 and fill themselves up with energy drinks and the pain-killing drug Tramadol, you get the strong feeling the full story is yet to come out.
It seems the Silly Six, or whatever you want to call them – Manu Vatuvei, Ben Matulino, Bodene Thompson, Sam Lisone, Albert Vete and Konrad Hurrell – even allowing for Hurrell's claim that he abstained from the pill popping, had company on their night out in the shape of a former Warriors player whose identity has yet to be revealed. It's understood this mystery guest was a bad influence."

| I've been singing the praises of Charlie Gubb and saying he's just the sort of player we should be going for for a while. Hard-working, strong tackler, makes good metres, and still young with his best years ahead of him.
[edit Reading the link. at 26 (if that's right) Gubb is fair bit older than I thought. Still young enough, though.

| Gubb is a crowd favourite at the Warriors and like typical crowd favorites he does a lot of eye catching stuff but has his flaws.
Positives are without doubt his enthusiasm in everything he does. I doubt think he is the most gifted player ever, he is a reasonable size but he seems to love the contact, especially in defence. He comes on hair flies everywhere as he throws his body about looking to hit anything that moves.
Cons mainly his Ho forward, which is ok when he gets involved but he can go missing at times/be pushed out but that may be due to the effort he puts in, in defence.
I think he would go well in SL, big hit machine and the lower intensity may see more in attack from him.
Not going to clock up huge meters but very much in the Wane style of Prop.

| Just watched the Warriors Broncos game from the weekend. Gubb came on for the last 30 took 1 drive in, in that time and must have come up with 25+ tackles some that you wouldn't expect a middle to make and did some nice running off the ball.
Team playing workhorse I think sums him up.
Crowd were on their feet cheering when they saw him warming up waiting to come on the field.

As did I. Makes lots of tackles, works hard, doesn't take the ball in too often and doesn't play too many minutes. Got Shaun Wane prop written all over him

| Mason Caton-Brown linked with Wigan
Been gaining momentum. Might seem odd to many given how far down the pecking order at Salford he is but his potential and versatility is valued by those at Wigan apparently. Will likely replace Sarginson.

| The Gubb write up on here does make him seem like a perfect fit for Waney and Wigan.
I wonder which prop will be leaving then?
As for Mason Caton Brown, can't remeber the last time I saw him play.
As for replacing Sarge, I doubt it.
Gildart has done the centre job very well thus far 2016. Why wouldn't he be a normal slot in to the 4 shirt next year?
That's unless MCB is just seen as a reserve squad player.
As for the left wing position, I'd prefer Denny Solomona thank you very much!

| Caton Brown would be ideal back up IMO. We've got Gildart to take a centre spot and we'll hopefully get a new winger but we're still short of somebody to offer some cover and I feel he could do that.
