| 5 pages ago Dannyboy was saying that Rooney's departure signalled the end for Man United.
Now he's worried for Man United because they've got him to stay.

| I know they ended on the wrong line of a bit of a beating but city played very well with 10 men, certainly up until the 2nd Arsenal goal.

| If you are going to have a man sent off after 5 mins, it would be better to do it against almost any other team than Arsenal. Still thought it was an enjoyable game.

| Quote Paddy Evra="Paddy Evra"Well you've got to congratulate David Gill for more bull$hit to tempt Rooney to sign a new contract.
We've gone from "lack of ambition" to "this is the club for me".
Obviously, it's very likely that Rooney has been given an extra £50k per week, but I'm sure he must've been given the Glazer promise of money to spend on new players in January. Hopefully this is true, but as we all know with them tvats, this is about as likely as me winning the Lottery tomorrow.
I'd like to think that Rooney is naive in thinking that United fans will forgive him once he steps onto the field again, unfortunately with the majority of the match-going lot today, it's very likely he'll be right.
It'll be interesting to see how much longer his ankle will keep him out of action now the contract is signed.'"
His signing was all about protecting an asset. If United don't win anything this season (which is more than probable), I think there's a fair chance they'll offload Rooney on their terms - ie get a ca. £60m transfer fee. They could not have got that sort of money if they didn't re-sign him. There's no way they'll keep him on those wages for 5 years if they're not winning stuff. Expect him to go to City or Madrid in the summer.

| Quote mutt1="mutt1"Where would you look at strengthening in January? They are saying that SAF has £60m + what he makes in player sales.
For me the midfield is a major concern this season. Ok Valencia will be back next season so the right side will be pretty strong with Nani and Toni, we can't keep relying on Scholes holding the Centre of midfield together he's not going to be around forever. I've always held the beleif that Rooney would be more suited to the Scholes type role so that could be an option with Berba and Chico playing up front or if they could get in Sneijder or Schweinsteiger you'd obviously go with Rooney and Berba upfront, Fletcher playing the defensive mid role or Hargreaves when fit. We desperately need a replacement for Giggs on the left side and there is a certain left sided Welsh player who i'd love to see taking his place although we don't know how Bebe is going to turn out yet.
The defence is strong enough for me but if that was to be strengthened i'd maybe look at back up for Evra although we do have O'shea who does ok. I think we're ok at right back with Rafael improving all the time and cover from Brown and Fletcher can also cover. I really like the look of Smalling from what i've seen of him and i think he could have a big future and looks like the ideal replacement for Rio.
In the summer a keeper is a necessity as like schoes, giggs etc Van Der Sar can't carry on for much longer
Out
Carrick
Anderson
Gibson
Park
Scholes (retire)
Giggs (retire)
Neville (retire)
Van Der Sarr (retire)
In
Neuer
Sniejder or Schweinsteiger
Cleverley (back in Jan)
Bale (doubt he'd come though)
This would be my ideal lineup
Neuer/Ketchup
Rafael/Brown
Rio/Smalling
Vidic/Evans
Evra/O'shea
Valencia/Nani
Fletcher/Hargreaves
Schweinsteiger or Sniejder/ Rooney
Bale/Bebe
Berba/Macheda/Welbeck
Rooney/Chico/Diouf
With the likes of Cleverly, Eikrem, James, Morrison, Petrucci, Cory Evans, King, Pogba and Lingard all looking like they could have good futures'"
I'd say we need a keeper, a midfielder, a wide player and a striker. I think the immediate priority will be a keeper, Steklenberg and the young Danish keeper both mentioned along with De Gea. Also a midfielder with Sniedjer looking like the target. I think this season will be the last for Giggs and Scholes but they might just go round again but not as first choice week in/out.

That header was sublime. We looked very dangerous on the break in the first half but sat back way too much in the second half.

Second half was a poor display. We could not hold onto the ball in midfield. That is an area we need to strengthen for me. Replace Scholes with a Xavi like player (easier said than done).

| not tooo dissapointed about ysterday tbh. The sending off was the correct descion we was alwaysgoing to struggle. We were better team until about the 60th minute IMO then we ran out of steam. Though Fabregas and Nasri were awesome for nal they deserved the win but im poud be a city fan after yesterday. Anybody who says the players are just in it for the mone should watch that game yesterday everyone of the players was good (well apart from barry) Yaya Toure is going to be immense when hes fully fit and Ballotelli showed touches of class when he came on. Silva s getting bette and better with every game too. Think Aresnal are deffo in the race now. All of the top 4 have got a chance at the title i think

Considering that Dalglish hasn't been involved in front line football for years then yes, if it's true, I would say the writing is on the wall for Roy. Dalglish was a sublime footballer and, as is often forgotten, won the league title with two different clubs. He's forgotten more about football than we'll ever know. However he's been out of the picture for ages. Whilst it would be sensible to gauge his views, if he is trusted more than Hodgson with respect to player recruitment, it's a massive indictment on the affable Liverpool manager.

I don't see how someone who has spent a large part of the last ten years trundling round golf courses can get Liverpool out of the mess they're in.

Were you watching a different game to me? You played OK but were never the better side IMO and I think you lacked any real width to truly trouble a pretty ordinary Arsenal defence.
And I personally didnt see anything from Balotelli at all in his 15-20 minutes. Not that that's a criticism due to him hardly playing any football for the best part of 6 months. Tevez put in a manful shift though despite his injury.
Good win for Nited too and 2 classic strikers goals from Ole Gunnar Hernandez. How Gary Neville managed to avoid getting sent off is another matter. Woeful refereeing considering the other yellow cards he was doling out for both sides.

When you're down to 10 men, width is the first thing that goes.
Putting Balotelli on rather than Johnson was a touch strange. Playing 4-3-2 against an Arsenal side playing 4-5-1 guarantees them possesion. Either Mancini was just hoping that Balotelli would have a dream debut or he'd decided that at 0-2 the game was lost and he might as well give him a run out.
I dont think we'll see much from Balotelli for a few months. Its difficult enough for a foreign striker to adapt to the premiership at that start of the season after a good pre season. Even more so after a long injury lay off. Mancini has taken two months to ease Silva into the premiership, cant see him rushing Balotelli.
