| Quote OoOGazOoO="OoOGazOoO"That's got nothing to do with people being hysterical.
It's because the city lives and breathes football and Newcastle United, like no other place i have actually seen.
Football is massive in Newcastle, and without being biased, i have never known it to be the focal point of some many peoples lives, as opposed to other towns or cities, no matter how successful the team has been.
Owen was a massive signing, absolutely massive at the time.
It's got nothing to do with people being branded as 'messiahs', it is because people of Newcastle generally live for the Toon.'"
pffftt whatever.
That just seems like another translation of we have the best fans. Our city lives and breathes football like no other. Yeah. You ever been to turkey or italy? Some of them KILL for their team, their life revolves around the team. It runs through their blood.
You think your city lives and breathes football more than liverpool and the scouse community?
More head up the stuff from newcastle.

| Quote OoOGazOoO="OoOGazOoO"It's not our problem pal, we dont actually view managers as messiahs, but it's people like yourself who latch onto these things such as 'messiahs' which the media generates, which make you sound foolish.'"
Even though Keegan has walked out on you twice you still won't criticise him. The situation you find yourself in has nothing to do with him, judging by the Newcastle fans posts on here.
If Keegan was to come back you'd welcome him back.
That's why other fans are right to take the pi55 over you and your messiahs. You might not use the flipping word, but that's how you act.
You're heading towards relegation and what do you do? Appoint the club's biggest star of the last decade, even though he has shown precious little desire to manage. The only qualification he has to be your boss is what he did as a player. Keegan was living in Spain and insisting he was done with football when your club went over and dragged him back to manage you. That's not crazy to you lot, that's doing what the Toon Army want.
Even if Shearer doesn't win a single game this season and takes you down most of your fans will still be happy if he stays on as manager.
All these things are why you rightly earn the Messiah tag.

I agree with you mate, that is why he shouldnt have been appointed for a second time round.
I remember him being interviewed weeks before he was given the job and as you state, he said he had been completely out of touch with the game.
Like Shearer, i personally didn't think Keegan was the right man for the job, however, you back managers and hope they do well. Keegan turned us from playing like a shower of s*it, to playing well at places like Old Trafford, etc... i think that is the biggest cause of disappointment mate.

| Quote OoOGazOoO="OoOGazOoO"Yeh too true mate.
The thing is, there doesn't seem to be any passion, there is idiotic behaviour from Barton, but not real passion. '"
I wonder how many players in these struggling teams have clauses to get out in the event of relegation only to be re-employed as 'experienced Premiership players' by the likes of Wolves,Birmingham and ,hopefully, Burnley. I saw some players picked up by Bradford City in the vain attempt to survive who were only picking up a premiership wage. Petrescu and Hopkin spring immediately to mind.

| Quote Fresh Prince of Chesh-air="Fresh Prince of Chesh-air"I don't think it needs explaining but hey ho...
They are a big club, with a big stadium and great fan base. As advert for a PL it'd be much more attractive seeing a massive 52,000 seater stadium full then somewhere like the JJB struggling to get 17,000....always have good banter with the geordies as well. A team like Newcastle as well will be able (well you wouldn't have thought it this season (haha) to tempt big players from europe or even tempt big players back ala Owen, which can only be good for the PL).
Don't get me wrong if they finish in the bottom three they deserve to be relegated I'm not questioning that, just as far as the PL goes, it'd be a shame if they were relegated.'"
Big Stadium, Decent Fan Base yes but are they actually a "Big Club" i don't believe they are, They portray themselves as one but i don't understand why, Leeds United are a Big Club you can't deny that but Newcastle a club who hasn't done anything for god knows how many years, Have they ever dominated an era so to speak?...

Did they "live for the toon" in the late 80's early 90's?

I would imagine so.
Might not have been in their big numbers but i'm sure some people did "live for the toon". Just like during out bad times up until a few years ago we still had fantastic support and attendance who lived for Everton.

| Quote Snake Eater="Snake Eater"do you not think that's part of their problem?
they are obsessed with their past and there always has to be some ''geordie messiah'' who will come along and then magically create a golden era where they play football like barcelona and win trophies for ever more.
It's a sh*tty pipe dream and it's about time they let go of the past.'"
I think I was being sarcastic.

| Quote Snake Eater="Snake Eater"Do you know why the name ''messiah'' get's coined?
It's because that's how the newcastle fans treat them, flocking in their thousands to welcome them, with mad hysteria and excitment, sure you see a few ''messiah 9 shearer'' on the back of shirts. Look at the way they welcomed owen. The whole things cringeworthy.'"
It's also a direct quote from a number of Newcastle fans from SSN who were greeting Kevin Keegan's return.
I think the term messiah was most apt. Rode into town to cheers and jubilation, ended up crucified.
