| Quote Prince of Denmark="Prince of Denmark"I'm disgusted by the Morgan Review. The various one day competitions have been tinkered with so much over the last decade I'm not really bothered what happens to them, but cutting the number of Championship matches when the current format has worked so well and produced so many exciting finishes since it was adopted in 2000 is shocking.'"
Couldn't agree more. I still can't quite work out what the purpose is supposed to be.
Quote Prince of Denmark="Prince of Denmark"I'm not sure how to link it as it's on a PDF, but Morgan's proposed calendar for the 2014 season is on my desktop. The season starts on Friday 11 April with the one day knockout final on Saturday 20 September; the Champions League is scheduled to begin on 10 September. The season is still just as long, it overlaps with the Champions League, and there are still 19 dates allocated for Championship matches, the same as last season. The only difference is that each team is inactive for five out of 19 rounds instead of three out of 19 rounds.'"
I'll have to try and find a copy of that if you can't get it up on here. That just makes it sound even dafter.
I'm refusing to comment on England, by the way!

This is the link from which I downloaded the PDF a couple of weeks back. It seems to have been removed, maybe it can be found by another route on the ECB website?
static.ecb.co.uk/files/morgan...dule-11868.pdf
My gut feeling is that "Team England" has given Morgan two briefs:
a) Cut the number of Championship matches to 14 and give every team two additional blank weeks for rest/practice during the season. There's clearly a groundswell of opposition to this at county level, and it appears the Morgan Review has attempted to ignore this.
b) Make the one day competion 50 overs instead of 40 overs, regardless of what best suits the counties. (Personally I'd rather watch 40 overs, but I'm not really that bothered. either way.)

Plenty of contributions to our downfall again from our batsmen today, Pakistan played very well - and have had a very good 2011/12 in test cricket, but questions have to be asked about our planning and preparation batting-wise. The attitude of persevering with players has served us well in recent times and is to be applauded - so surely with that settled line-up there should be no excuse for people not being ready for what they are going to face from their opponents?

| I agree with scrapping the 40 over competition in favour for a 50 over. We should be playing the same formats domestically, as are played internationally.
Reducing the county championship games is ridiculous.
As for England, the fact that we're capable of taking 20 wickets on the sub-continent is a plus to take from the series. The batsmen need to work on their technique against spin, and if they do we should be in a good position to win in Sri Lanka. Would leave Morgan out and replace him with either Bresnan or Patel, dependant on whether they'd like an extra front line seamer or batsman that offers a better backup spin option than KP.

| The only sensible way that they could have brought the championship down to 14 games would have been to reduce the number of teams in the top division to 8 so at least there would be an even spread of the 14 games. To have some teams playing each other twice and some only once makes it a lottery.

| Tie between India and Sri Lanka today, both making 236/9. But the 30th over of the Indian innings was a 5-baller... Controversy

If only we had a couple more explosive and relaible batsman, then we'd be a formidable one-day outfit, because our bowling attack is as good as you could get.

England have them in Pietersen and Morgan, it's just that neither of them seems sure which end of the bat is which at the moment.

Must be a novelty for the Saffers, someone else's choking handing them a victory.

Wait until the World t20. It's only a proper Saffer choke at a major international tournament.
Remember, it ain't over until the fat lady gets something stuck in her throat, starts turning blue and keels over. While misreading a D/L sheet.

The timing of Bopara's wicket could not have been worse. Personally, I blame Kieswetter.

Was bad timing. Plenty of hitters came in afterwards though, just that they could not read Ajmal and the seamers bowleed too full to hit boundaries. Why Kieswetter?

Don't rate his keeping. As a batsman, he's supposed to get us off to a flier and he isn't doing that. 14 off 18 balls yesterday before backing away so far to leg that he was bowled leg stump by one he couldn't reach. If he isn't getting us away in those first six overs, his keeping isn't good enough to warrant selection. Better to bring in a proper opener (Hales and Cook both in the squad) and hand the gloves to either of the middle order wicket-keeping biffers who are also in the squad in the shape of Buttler and Bairstow.
Rant over

| That last ball from Dirtbag last night... Way to hold your nerve under pressure. Still don't rate him though
Morgan dropped from the Test squad going to Sri Lanka. James Tredwell is in, as is Fat Sam.
