I thought Vaughan looked very polished, playing a form of the game that doesnt come naturally to him. I certainly wouldnt rule out a recall at some stage during the Ashes series. If, for example, we were to repeat 2005 and need an extra batsman for the final test he'd be who I would put my money on.

I think he could make an appearance in the Ashes too, in recent weeks he has started to find a bit more form, I think we look weak in the batting department with Prior at 6 so it's an option possibly.

I'm not the biggest fan of 20/20, but it is good to see that "proper" cricket and cricketers can be effective in the format.

Brad Hodge always impressed me in 20/20. Successful at that form of the game, but played proper cricket shots.

Until this summer I've not seen much 20/20, at County level, since the first year it was introduced.



I do think it has come on from the "hit and hope" competition it was and does now seem to, at times, reward some proper cricket, as well as requiring a different skillset and tactics set.

so what is the inevitable then??

Lancs don't win owt, need you ask really?

We don't normally no but the way we've started and the way the team is developing is giving a lot of us optimism for the future, not necessarily this season

We've got a young team that is developing well so even if this season doesn't pan out the way we want it there's enough that's been shown so far to say Lancs have got a good future ahead of us.

God forbid you're actually looking at things sensibly...

I can't even remember saying we [uwere[/u going to win anything neither, just loving the fact we tanned the Yorkies hide twice in 4 days!!!...we're Lancs fans, we never expect to win anything!!

Aye, if Rashid doesn't make the breakthrough into the England side on a regular basis, then it's going to be an interesting dilemma for Yorkshire. Do they start producing dry, turning pitches and play two out of Rashid, Rafiq and Wainwright at the expense of someone like Kruis or Hoggard?

The long-term view of things would say develop pitches that will help you win more matches and develop your most promising youngsters at the same time...but on the other hand you need some older, more experienced players to help them develop as well...I'd like to see youth given it's chance as I think it is at more and more counties now, which has to be a good thing for the depth of the CC and for the future England team.

Makes sense, but this is England.
