First of all, earlier on in the season, Saints 'rested' quite a few at home to HKR, but they weren't good enough to take advantage. Surely this all boils down to their squad announced at the start of the season? If those players that played today were given squad numbers at the start, then they are part of the squad and can be selected whenever the coach chooses? However morally wrong that is, it's allowed. If though, 4 or 5 of them aren't considered part of the '1st team' squad, and they have been drafted in because of injuries, which then if questioned by the RFL, does not the club have to provide medical reasons by a doctor/physio as to why the 'normal', regulars can't play??

This is our own fault. Saints, within reason can play who they want. No point complaining about it.

We need to concentrate on our own failings. The only people that can drag us out of this mess are the coaching staff and the players. Based on recent outings, it will take a massive turnaround for us to survive

Ermmmm, yeah I actually said back on here after the second London game if we get dragged into any dogfight we have no one else to blame, I've probably said it 20 times on here since!!!!!!!!! But, given the amount of ill feeling this will probably create amongst opposing fans etc. I think a rules clarification is in order. I don't know what the rules are, I believe they haven't done anything wrong, but if anyone knows any differently, it would be nice to hear from them.....

The players Wigan were missing were injured. As far as I know most of the Saints players were 'rested.'

I think i'd take issue with Swift, Lees and Bentley as 'regulars.'

Well in my eyes it just shows how low this club has sunk! The fact that we are even interested in what other teams are doing in order to save our skin is quite sad

Yep still some people who think the players are above criticism despite how bad they play/effort some of them put in

Swift has played 128 games and on average scores a try every 2nd game



Matty Lees at just 21 years old has played something like 44 games in SL



James Bentley has played in 12 of Sts SL games this year

Yep, Swift was a regular until Grace came along, Bentley seems to play when Roby is missing.......

I've just gone on the Saints website, and all of those young lads that played today have squad numbers and are part of the first team squad.......no breaking of RFL rules St Helens, we and everyone else just gonna have to cop it sweet..........

It leaves something of a sour taste, given that they've practically handed London the 2 points during a really tight relegation battle; and all in prep for the mighty Halifax...



That said - they have operated within the rules and Holbrook is perfectly entitled to manage his squad exactly the way he sees fit; the relegation dogfight is none of his concern, because they've won enough games for it not to be. We have only ourselves, and some unlucky injuries, to blame.

As we are heavily involved in a relegation battle, its natural to be interested in the fixtures of the other clubs around us, just as we would be if Trinity were battling for a play off spot and in fairness, the fielding of a weakened side against a title rival would hold just as much interest if we were at the other end of the table.

IF another club gifted any club 2 points, to allow them to secure the title, avoid the drop, win a trophy it would be deemed wrong, whether it was "within the rules" or not.

I do agree that Trinity have sunk like concrete in a swimming pool but, that isn't really the issue.

If we were safe in mid table or, challenging for the title, their (Saints) actions wouldn't be any more "right" than they were yesterday.



Personally, I made a few quid out of it but, again, that isn't the point.

When a team can 'gift' another team 2 points that could be classed as manipulating the league IMO.Not blaming Saints in this case, but as the rule stands it is a possibility.I think the rule needs clarifying.

Think if you go on squad numbers St had 2 / 3 players in the team who would be in first 13 next was a 15 and quite a few in the 20 /30+

You're well known for constantly scapegoating referees for your failings but now have moved on to blaming Saints.



The bottom line is Justin Holbrook is paid to do what he feels is best for St Helens, not Wakefield or any other club. It simply isn't his problem that you're deep in the mire.



I went yesterday and it was disappointing to lose but having played weakened sides twice against London it simply means our top players will be 160 minutes of rugby fresher come the business end. Our concern is ourselves and looking to win honours, not getting other clubs out of the mess they've made of their season.

please do not tar all the Trinity fans with the same brush. The majority of fans accept the only ones to blame are the Trinity players. I agree with you each club has to do what is best for that club. Saints have done nothing wrong and London played to win.

I think "unethical" is the word that would apply. However if Trinty were sitting comfortably at 5th place how many people would have mentioned it on here.
