You can shout from the rooftops about signing Long if this was 2007, but its not and he isnt half the player he was. I am sure he will love the 5 hour round trip to training every day too ! Like i said he is better than that muppet thorman but come 2010, after another long hard season with saints, he will be way way past his best....sorry to mickey on your bonfire'"
Keep clutching at straws troll, he's staying in Hull 4 days a week.

Ignore the Rhino's idiot.
Senior isn't better than our current centres, they have careers AHEAD of them.

| Quote Dave K.="Dave K."Or Saints have better players coming through who are younger and on less money (Steve Prescott springs to mind with Wellens coming through), that doesnt mean he is a bad signing for Hull.
.'" I think that is part of it tbh. I think if we had signed him now for 2 years we would have run the risk of losing the young players who are lined up as possible replacements - why spend 2 years as "second best" when they could become first choice elsewhere - and in the long run that would be a bigger blow for the club.
As I have said before its a good signing for Hull I think, and wish him all the best.

| Quote St pete="St pete"At the end of the day saints see longy train every day, see how he plays every week and know what sort of shape he really in.
It's obvious saints don't think he got 2 years left at the top level or we would have give him 2yr deal.
He could very well turn out good deal for hull with the change of club and also he better than what you got at moment.
I hope he plays well for hull but not against saints.
Now we got to see who plays 7 for us.'"
You might find Saints haven't got two years left at the top level without him...

Nothing to do with his contract, it's to do with simple logistics.

Personally i'd want him living in Hull, none of this staying half a week rubbish. You do not know his plans, he may want to move here and keep his place over there.
What will happen to his sponsored BMW X5 with his personal reg on it?

| Quote SaintsFan="SaintsFan"You have to appreciate something with Sean Long. What you see is what you get. He's an individual, a 'character' of the sport. He's flamboyant and an egotist and audacious and as such he can be both brilliant and a pain in the Rse. His kicking this season has been dire, yes, but then there was the match at Catalans for us when we were losing and he kicked I think it was three from the touchline on his 'wrong' foot. That helped us win the match, along with Wheeler and his brilliant final try.
My bet is that no-one could tell you whether Longy is bothered or not about leaving Saints. He may be as gutted as he recently claimed he would be if he had to leave or he may not. He is too much of an individual to let anyone but those closest to him know such stuff. But if he is at peace with his decision then you will get a very hardworking player in Long and a still gifted one, both with his boot and in his ability to organise round the park. Sure, we have had the best of him (though his kicking has never been reliable, even at his peak) but he still has at least one good year left in him.
Taking on any new player is a risk but at least with Longy everyone has seen what he is capable of, both negative and positive, so Hull have done this with their eyes open. If your coach has given Long fairly free reign when it comes to organising your team around the park then my guess is Longy will go well for you.'"
I have no problem with Long as a player. He is by far the best SL no 7 and has been for years. His short kicking and creativity are excellent.
What my concern is does he have the heart to put the effort in week after week regardless of how tough it gets. Is he mr committed professional or is he just going to get a last payday before retirement. He is such a risk and an expensive one at that i would not touch him. If i was a saints fan i would be dissappointed and i am sure that he could still do it for saints for two more seasons. I do not see him transferring his allegiance to another team on the opposite side of the country. Please feel free to save this post to hammer me with next year because i have pasted mugwumps and others and i will be back here with i told you so.

| I have no problem with Long's ability - it is beyond question, at least in attack. What I do have a problem with is his age and injury record. I think we might have just signed another Adam Dykes.
