This is dreadful news if true.

A local derby, intense atmosphere and someone that clearly hasn't been up to standard to ref this year. He could ruin this for the paying public. There may be 8000 plus people in attendance to watch a cracking game of rugby on Friday...what we could get is penalty, penalty, penalty, frustration from the players and hostility from the crowd.

I really cannot understand the RLs decision here. A powder keg, the RL have not only provided the match, but they have lit it too. Who will pay the consequences after 80 minutes ?!

Don't know why people whinge.

The onus, for me, is on the players to learn what Child penalises for and work to ensure that they do not get caught.

If they don't, they'll get penalised - simples.

So you are saying that Terry should sit the players down and watch some videos of Mr Child in action? The players do not have to learn what a referee blows up for at all. The players need to play the game within the laws and the referee's need to be consistent in what they blow up for. That isn't to say that Referee A, B and C consistently blow up for little while referee D consistently blows up for too much. They all should be singing from the same song sheet. Midweek the referees should be getting together and working on their game, accessing what they did right and wrong. We all know that any ref can blow up and give 40 penalties a game and you can look back and all these will be spot on. The fact is that this isn't the norm' for our game and not the general way of officiating. Mr Child seems to want to do different to what everyone else is doing and that's where the problem lies. If he comes in and knocks up 40 penalties again, it's not the players who are in the wrong and they shouldn't have been doing anything different to please Mr Child.

If there is one referee that could spark crowd trouble it is Child.

What with one of the teams allegedly favourites to lose a franchise i can't help but think Red Hall wouldn't mind another excuse?

Child applies the rules stringently unlike other refs where they allow the game to flow.

It is Cas's responsibility to ensure they are square at the marker, not offside and not interfering at the play-the-ball.
