I've been on the Leeds board gauging the reaction of their win last night, only to read that Jimmy Lowes has been at Leeds the past 3 weeks supposedly training them in defence. Is this news to just me but I saw us defend under his command and it was hardly cracking

Yeah, Lowes tells them what he thinks they should do, the team does the opposite and wins comfortably. At least, that's what I assume is happening

3 weeks with the defence of the team with the worst defensive record in Superleague. Nilled Salford and one try conceded at Wakefield. But of course it could not possibly be anything to do with your nemesis.
Perhaps those who said he is a brilliant assistant but not suited to head coach responsibilities were correct.

Or perhaps the Leeds players have finally pulled their heads out their backsides and realised that if they don't start picking up some points they're finishing bottom of SL and might have a dangerous wobble or two in the middle 8s

Jimmy coaching people on how to tackle isn't a surprise that it would be successful. Sure, it didn't look likely the last 18 months or so at Odsal, but he was a great defender as a player.

I think the idea of him being a good coach, but not a head coach has merit. He can coach the techniques perfectly fine, but the tactics side of things seem a bit beyond him.

Adam Sidlows comment in the T & A was an interesting pointer when asked about the difference between Jimmy & Rohans coaching.
He said with Jimmy it was always intense but with Rohan he's intense when he needs to be!
That and I suspect other aspect of Jimmy's man management were a big part of the problems he had getting the Squad to perform during the matchs.

you are aware that Rohan Smith ex-defence coach of the Titans had one of the worst defensive records in the NRL in 2016, hence the determination of the Titans management to get the deal with the Bulls done as quickly as possible?

A Gold Coast Titans team that would probably wipe the floor with most SL clubs. Smith has a big reputation down under. Our defence has improved massively since he has come here.

Interestingly, through wayward means, I found myself having a rugby chat with a mate of Lowes' and he said Jimmy didn't particularly like the head coach role because of the off-field requirements. He would prefer to coach the lads, have a beer and that's that. And I think we all could tell how much he disliked the press conferences. So the assistant coach preference is definitely on the money from what I was told.
