I saw it a different way to be honest. There is no love lost between the two of them, I read it as Wayne's questioning of Powell's coaching ability, not that the players were the problem.
If Wayne was questioning the ability of the players why would he have so many of them in his England squad last year and this?
However, we probably will never find out.

Exactly this. He knew they were talented players and he thought he could get tune out of them despite the same players being responsible for round 1 knockouts at Warrington.

I'm really grateful to you here because this highlights perfectly the attiude of our players who think it's acceptable to put half arsed efforts in at our club, yet will raise their game when it suits them and they think its more important.

Can somebody smarter than me tell me about the defensive structure this year? We're shipping points like nobody's business. This many points can't all be down to individual errors, surely?

What's the deal, are we going man for man, have we got less emphasis on the wrestle and more on impact, thus creating a fast ptb against us? Is Powel a fan on a tighter middle and thus there are spaces on the edges.

Has there been a philosophy switch that's notable because I'm scratching my noggin?

Lack of effort mainly. See saints game.

Incorrect. We have won 3.

We have won 6 trophies since Smith came in.

The point I keep making is that we had instant success and were competitive after one full season from Smith and Price.

Smith - 3rd Place / Preliminary Semi Final / Challenge Cup Winners
Price - 4th Place / Grand Final Runner Up / Challenge Cup Runner Up
Powell* - 9th Place / TBC but might not even make playoffs / Challenge Cup Last 16

I'm more than happy to accept I was wrong and look like an idiot next season, or even this season if we pull off a miracle. But compared to how well our last 2 coaches did, this is currently not acceptable in comparison.

One major missing comparative factor here - time. Even if Powell was doing well, at this point in the season he'd be unable to win anything apart from a challenge cup.

We're not making the top 6 and we're definitely not tilting at the GF.

No you are incorrect. Last 10 seasons starting 2013 season we have won 1 major trophy. The CC in 2019. If you want to count League Leaders shields we are grasping at straws.

The point being we have been poor for a while, massively underachieved for a decade. Being beaten in finals doesnt wind my watch nor should I imagine the fans of Saints, Wigan, Leeds.

Of course, but my point was that it's a poor medium for comparison when Powell's been here half a season, Price 4 and Smith 9 years (I think).

Re: Powell OUT : Sun Jul 17, 2022 6:24 pm
Whether you want him out or not he's not going to be sacked now that we're probably safe from relegation. However the season is a right off, our defence is ridiculously soft and the attack is woeful, especially when we eventually get in their 20. He's signed Minikin, Holmes, Amor and for some bizarre reason wants a past it Ratchford as his stand off for the next 2 years.

The culture probably needed to be changed and Powell has definitely done that but it doesn't look to have changed for the better.

With the squad we have next year we should be challenging for everything and not be accepting anything else. If performances are anything like this year then I'm sure the Board will sack him although I'm not sure when we last did that to a coach.

Last Wire coach to be sacked, was Paul Cullen.

His successor James Lowes was demoted when Tony Smith was appointed, but stayed on until Leeds offered him a job as an Assistant Coach.
