God is nothing more than an imaginary friend for grown ups.

Good post Fred, brief and to the point.

Govin, you're an idiot and a waster.

How is education supposed to make me feel smarter? Besides, every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain. Remember when I took that home winemaking course, and I forgot how to drive?

Fred how can you compare the use of a Class A substance against 2 products which can be bought legally in many outlets.
I wonder how many asphyxiated deaths were the result of Cocaine induced stupors?

i had not seen that article but I wasn't comparing anything just making the point that not all dangerous 'substances' are illegal I still maintain more deaths caused by Alcohol and nicotine, cocaine does not induce a stupor just the opposite it heightens awareness

I beg to differ about no recorded deaths. There have been many but have been seen as heart failure. One of the effects of cocaine is to increase the heart rate thus causing the old ticker to age more rapidly. Many autopsies have shown that people who have used cocaine and speed for a long time have had the heart of a person some 20 to 30 years older than themselves. Also increased blood preasure comes with prolonged use of the drugs. Reading an article the other day on tinternet the increase in some stomach cancers is being attributed to the use of the type of cocaine that is sold today. They were putting it down to the cutting and cleaning agents used before it goes on the streets.

Opiate use also effects the psychological balance and the transmission of electrical impulses in the brain. The knock on effect can result in severe opiate induced psychosis with many recorded suicides attributed to the cause.
Steroid use has similar "personality changing" qualities often resulting in the user becoming over aggressive, manic, with incidents of variant neurosis/psychosies associated with their use of steroids.
Research detailing the mortality rates of drugs users are indeed difficult to record accurately as most users remain disengaged from health pros and pre-existance of conditions is difficult to determin.
Alcohol is one of the most difficult substances for our bodies to deal with. Deaths directly from alcohol use are few - indirectly, e.g. fromaccidents etc, there are many more.
Feels like I'm at work this!!

I've never felt the need to use drugs and I'm not really going to sit in judgement of those that do. However, one has to question the nouse of the attitude of pro sportsmen who appear to think they are "fireproof" from the testing team!!!
Bonkers!

" Time is but a flowing stream".
Pedro. Higherfold Cockey Pond. 1973.

You can shout for silence, but boots worn all day will always hum.

Fred that is the problem with it. Yes it does give those feelings short term but prolonged use causes serious mental helth issues for the user. Paranoia, unable to make decisions, uncontrolable perspiring, respiratory problems and a type of agoraphobia. Users eventually feel that the world is too difficult for them to handle. The stuff they sell now is not what they say it is. Not like the Coca Cola add "relieves fatigue", it actualy induces agression mixed with drink. Since GMP have -and I may add with the help of some club owners - been putting sniffer dogs in the club queues and having the swab machines inside the doors, violent crime at the weekends was cut by nearly 70% in the city centre.

I am with the Watcher on this.

How anyone can think this particular drug improves players performance on a RL field astonishes me.

Oh yeh sportsmen have to set an example to youngsters and if no sports person took recreational drugs then no youngsters would ever take recreational substances. How can anyone seriously believe that ?

I am just surprised players can' if they wish drink a bucket of red wine a day and still not get banned but taking a different addictive drug they can get banned' because one addictive drug is illegal and the other is not.?

Do I think taking addictive drugs is wrong is not the point in my view when it comes to sport. When it does not improve player performance so what. Anyone who tries cocaine does so because they want to not because Govin took it.

I would legalise all such drugs at least our Chancellor could tax them and maybe there would be less crime. Would you take cocaine if it was legal ? What has that do do with me or the RFL ?

Opium used to be legal when Queen Victoria was on the throne. I think they call it heroin now.

Probably the most sensible post I've read on this board, ever, period.
If drugs were legalised and freely available crime in this country would be reduced by about 85 percent. The goverment could buy all the cocaine in Columbia for what it spends on policing and anti drug related campaigns

I could marry you right now...
Peoples ignorance when it comes to drug use yet continue to consume 30+ units of alcohol on both weekend nights plus a 20 deck of fags on each is astounding. The hypocrisy is ridiculous.
I'll tell you what TV boy, you consume a litre of vodka a day and ill take a gram of coke. We'll see who hits the flowers first.

It really doesnt matter one bit about people opinions on whether fags or beer etc are more harmful, and it is true what they do say it is a banned substance in our sport and if you take it and get caught, you are banned and it is silly of a sportsman to do it knowing this when he took it.

Tony I am not advocating the use of Cocaine I know the problems it causes I'm just pointing out the hypocracy surrounding some banned substances when other legal ones cause far bigger more widespread health issues and that maybe the country as a whole should revisit and re evaluate some of the legal substances again.
Alcohol abuse causes far more social problems than does Cocaine abuse, and yes sometimes I also enjoy a drink in moderation I also smoked from the age of 11 to the age of 39
