No other superleague club plays in such a massive city, nor has a core of supporters that come such distances to watch the team play.

That alone is enough to rule out Sundays as the public transport is poop as we all know.

I think that's the nub of it. It's bad enough on Saturdays trying to negotiate public transport in London, but on Sundays most people (other than die hard quins fans) would just give up.

And as for persuading non rl fans to come to their first game, ease of transportation to the game (I would have thought) is quite important.

What's your solution to the pisspoor public transport on Sunday. Leeds, Saints, Wigan, Bradford, Salford all their core support live within a few miles.

Comparison is irrelevant, Quins RL have to find their own solution.

I suspect and of course I don't know that fans of smaller clubs are maybe the most likely to do two sports, purely based on cost. So what time these clubs play is maybe irrelevant

Quite honestly who cares whether its difficult for away fans. Quins have to find a home fan base and not pamper to clubs who don't give our fans a 2nd thought on kick off times. Just how many fans travel by train these days ? 10% ? Cars work on Sundays as well as they do on Saturdays , maybe on quieter roads ! I suspect that the hard core of fans who travel to away games in London would come irrespective of the day

Quins do have to find their own solution but Saturday afternoons IMO and it may only be my opinion is NOT the solution. There is little evidence to support the view that it is

When Hull KR got promoted they said there was only room for one elite team in Hull... how right they were!

: Fri Mar 27, 2009 9:23 pm
I think for me the key thing is the dislocation in strategy. We can spend all day discussing who is and who isn't the target audience, and what is or isn't the preferred kick off time for whatever we each think that target audience is. But one fact is pretty clear: This club, and the RFL generally, have decided that the best channel to new customers is a community marketing programme. It started with Deakin at the Bulls, and spread into the rest of the game - and indeed then on to our Union brethren. It has also been shown to work on many, many occassions, and has the very useful - but secondary in a marketing sense - spin-off of expanding the potential player base.

I have no issue with the club following a different strategy, if there's evidence it will work better. But what I do have a problem with is the club investing a load of money in the community marketing plan with the one hand, and then making it impossible for that to deliver the targetted new customers with the other. It borders on the bizarre.

Whats wrong with gelling your hair? :ROCKS:

I think nnl01 summed it up best, with regards to transport issues, travelling on public transport can be very difficult on a Sunday, and most other clubs have a very small geogrpahical radius of fans that enables them to play friday evenings.

Haven't they done the kick off times vote twice, with Saturday afternoons narrowly edging it and both times they have said the votes were spread fairly evenly over all kick off times (Fri, Sat and Sun) so whatever day they choose they are upsetting roughly two-thirds of the voters.

That isn't a fact at all, in fact it's the complete opposite of fact. Take a look at the Premiership fixture list for the rest of this season, and below that division only a very small number of games are played at other times over the weekend.

If you prefer Saturdays, fine. If Quins was the only sports team I followed I would too, but at 3pm. Saturday late kick offs don't suit me at all. I don't awant to have to spend all afternoon clockwatching because I need to be somewhere for a late kick off with little time for socialising afterwards.

Yes, but that is because their season does not clash with the soccer season as much as the league one. Surely.

With respect they fill the stadium and when you are filling your stadium frankly you have no need to worry about any other sport

Quins Rl are getting pitiful crowds and therefore HAVE to worry about other attractions

Its the least relevant comparison of all
