| Director of rugby anybody .
Not to belittle poaching in anyway ,but could Kear not only back poaching in his first tenure as a coach but point him in the right direction and advise on the pitfalls that can so easily ruin a budding career . Obviously this would have to be run by poaching of course as I certainly wouldn’t want him to undermined his authority in any way ,but kear has far more experience of been embattled and getting the players up for the fight .

| Am I correct in thinking that the last time JK joined us he was still involved with Batley for a period, and held a dual position for some time?

| So my take is, if we need a Director of Rugby, and its a role we wanted to fill when we were winning then great. I'd love him to be involved.
If it's a reaction to losing, then Willie should decide if he needs help and choose what role that should be too.
Ie. He might want a sports psychologist or something.

| I’d say coaching wakefield is one of the tougher gigs In super league if only for the constraints that are involved ,we simply can’t buy our way out of trouble ,we have to simply roll our sleeves up and dig our way out , if all parties were happy I would certainly think Kear has had more experience of this type of pressure than most if not all coaches at present .

The first way to not ‘belittle’ Poching would be to spell his name correctly… personally I would welcome JK back at the club anytime… regardless of the current form…

| I’m a massive fan of jk
We did very very well under both his stints with us
Would love to see jk and Willie as a partnership
If it were possible to bring him john in this would be nothing but a good thing
Wonder if he still has the key to the city

| Why is he needed? Poching is nearly 50 years old has already done his apprenticeship, a good number of years as an assistant with many of those alongside Tony Smith who isn’t exactly short of a CV himself. He also has two assistants alongside him, one if which has head coaching experience at two different clubs. Willie has to stand in his own two feet has he doesn’t need his hand holding by John Kear. And if he does then he probably isn't the right man for the job right now anyway. If there’s money available spend it on a prop instead.

| If the money is right then why not, he was excellent for Chester and we had some good success whilst he was at the club.
Poching, Cummins, Applegarth, Dickens with some guidance from Kear. A lot of experience there.

| I can see both sides to this, it's all probably hypothetical because I doubt we could afford him.
WT fans have a lot to thank JK for, and I think he genuinely likes the club, but I don't thin it will happen.

| I don't think it even needs to be official or full-time.
JK is not a poor man and I don't think he needs to work full-time anymore, so working on a consultancy basis would probably suit him.
JK's biggest talent IMO was spotting potential in players who missed the initial surge. Those who are roughly between 20 and 24. He also knows the rogue players you can work with and those to avoid.
I think he could be employed part-time to do all this without really impinging on Poching.
A kind of special players agent just working for us.

Also wasn’t Hickey a Kear recruit

Any body can get one of two signings wrong in fact do not think M Peterson was as bad as a lot of fans made out .Funny how Chester lost is way after J K left . He as done great work for this club including saving from relegation when all seemed lost .This was after N Fox said on the T V after a defeat , the only chance Wakefield have of staying up is to sign J K The rest goes down in Wakefield history. So if N Fox rates him he will do for me. Not bad for a Cas lad

Tbf, we were trying to sign players with milk bottle tops at that time, below the usual bargain basement.

| People are so fickle.
I remember defending Kear and the usual suspects having a go because in their opinion he wanted to go to France and also he only played 5 drives and a kick.
In actual fact he was a great coach, in the most difficult times any club could ever have.
He should go down in history at the club.
But it's Willie's time now. We don't need to panic and change things at the first sign of difficulty. I have a lot if faith in him.
Leave him to do his job.
Not turning Kear down. There are roles he could do really well but Willie is in charge of the team. He doesn't need a mentor or someone above him.

He made more errors than that. Now please tell me who this super coach is who doesn’t. Sorry but what you say makes no sense.

To true PT but we are talking about a completely different role and one that probably doesn’t even exist.

| Whatever Kears shortfalls or strengths he certainly could rally the troops when all seemed lost . I know we aren’t in that position yet as some people would have you believe ,but he could certainly tap into the emotion of the occasion better than most and get that across to the players in no uncertain terms as proved in our hour of need

Bit rosed tinted, there were plenty of times when he couldn't tally them, except against Cas and by god do I miss that.
As a coach he had too great strength. He generally knew what players he liked and was able to mostly give them a game plan they could follow.
What he wasn't and never will be is the sort of coach who can revolutionise a club.
So I really don't want him back as a coach, that moment has been and gone. But as part of a coaching team that's fine. It certainly makes more sense than offering Tony Smith a similar role.

No rose tinted glasses from me at all , if you read the Keith senior autobiography he clearly mentions Kears limitations and his five drive and a kick philosophy. But where he did score highly was his people and motivational skills . You yourself were condemning all and sundry, like it’s never happened before, and will again no doubt . What I was pointing out was If required by the club to give them a rousing pick me up to get us back on track and firing on all cylinders , he’s available and he’s your man . But personally I like everything about poaching and I’m positive when the players eventually buy into him we will come good , not brilliant but good and start chipping away at the table and not get cast adrift like the doom merchants are all ready spouting about . Yes do do need fresh blood and players moving on , but this squad is good enough to see the season out and keep us in super league
